Debt Help

There are forms of debt help out there that aren't very helpful at all. Take a look at this update as we highlight to forms of debt help that you can do without.

Debt Help

Not all help is good help

How can we be so sure? We know because we have been working in the field for years. A lot of techniques and approaches out there are not only unorthodox but harmful to your credit as well. If you are serious about enrolling in some debt management but you don't know what effective debt help looks like, we can help.

Rather than simply telling you what kind of debt help is beneficial and efficient, we are going to warn you about techniques that are wrong and detrimental to your future. We can yap about debt consolidation and consumer credit counseling until we are blue in the face, but nothing will convince you more than cold, hard statistics.

Paying minimums

First things first, we know that a lot of you attempt to downplay the severity of your debt and you ignore professional debt help altogether. In that case, your options are to simply pay the minimums until you have payed back your debt. The problem here is that you don't know just how damaging that is. Take a look.

A $10,000 debt at 18.5% interest typically takes 32 years and $24,500 to pay off if you don't pay more than the required monthly minimum. But when you enroll in debt help, you lower your interest rate dramatically, allowing more money to go towards the principle. The same amount of debt could be paid off in about five years with help from a debt consolidation plan.

Filing for bankruptcy

We know that a lot of other consumers consider filing for bankruptcy a form of debt help. Nothing could be further from the truth. Bankruptcy will wipe the slate clean overnight, but it will do serious harm to your credit. The results of bankruptcy are long term. Bankruptcy stays on your credit report for 10 years, making it difficult to obtain credit, buy a home, get life insurance, or sometimes even get a job.
